The Astronomical Observatory in The Forum will be a research facility and public planetarium.
The goal of the project is to build a dual purpose laboratory space that allows researchers to use the planetarium during the week as office space and with a slight configuration open the planetarium to the public on weekends.
Due to the building’s south facing side, the facility is in an ideal location to build a solar observatory and study the sun while relying on data from other facilities for research that involves celestial bodies in our solar system and beyond.
To accomplish the overall goal, the project has been outlined in four phases.
While researching the sun is important for understanding the earth and commercial research projects will take place in the research space, by opening the facility to the public each weekend we are introducing a unique tourist attraction and educational resource to downtown Jamestown.
Phase 1 is being crowdfunded at SpaceLaunchUP.com.
